Exactly fifty years ago, the Swedish pop group ABBA had their big break with their song “People Need Love” from the 1973 album “Ring Ring”. Since then they have traveled all over the world – including Germany.
In his new book “ABBA in Germany 1973-1983”, author Micke Bayart finds an answer to the question of how Germany contributed to ABBA’s success. Among other things, the band visited the former GDR and appeared on November 2, 1974 on the television show “Ein Kessel Buntes”.
They played the songs “Waterloo”, “Honey Honey”, “So Long” and, as an encore, the winning song from the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest. ABBA also inspired people in Germany like hardly any other pop band. Radio stations continue to play their tracks over and over again. Not for nothing was it important for Benny and Björn to present their new album at “Wetten, dass…?”.
Bayart is a German-Swedish author and photographer. He has often had the honor of meeting ABBA in person. He has also published two books about the group, has given numerous TV and radio interviews and still writes feature articles for the international fan club “ABBA Intermezzo”.
In addition to the chronological integration of ABBA’s career, his latest work also includes exclusive media reports from the past – all with the aim of researching ABBA’s stay in Germany. The illustrated book “ABBA in Germany 1973-1983” is scheduled to appear on August 8, 2022 and will be available for EUR 49.00.
