New “Harry Potter” series: Daniel Radcliffe does not want to take on a role

“I’m happy to pass the torch on. But I don’t think it takes me to physically hand them over.”

Daniel Radcliffe may not be seen as Harry Potter again. The 33-year-old Briton was recently asked in an interview about a possible return to the new Harry Potter universe, after which he said he would not push for a part in the series.

The new series has already been confirmed by HBO Max – a television show based on the book series is planned, which Potter author JK Rowling will also serve as a producer. The launch date is expected to fall between 2025 and 2026.

Radcliffe revealed to ComicBook that he also thought it was unlikely that he would be offered a role and appear as another character. After all, the new series should stand out from the popular earlier book adaptations.

He said, “As far as I know, they try [mit der neuen Serie] make a fresh start, and I’m sure whoever is making them wants to put their own stamp on it.”

So the Londoner isn’t aspiring to appear in the series, “but obviously I wish them all the luck in the world and I’m really looking forward to passing the torch on. But I don’t think it takes me to physically hand them over.”

Fans on the new series: “Let it be” vs. “A dream come true”

Meanwhile, fans are chatting on Instagram in the comment columns of the Max streaming profile. While some are asking not to create a new series from the Potter universe (especially not without Radcliffe), others are happy.

“Two generations grew up watching these films. You won’t be able to bring us another Harry Potter that doesn’t star Daniel Radcliffe. It’s still iconic and fresh in our minds. Explore other parts of the wizarding world,” says one user.

Another retorts: “I don’t know why people keep saying it’s not what we wanted. Yes, the films are fantastic. And yes, nobody can take the place of the actors from the movies. But as a Harry Potter fan from the book, that’s what I wanted.”

As a reason for the positive attitude towards a new series, the Instagram user writes: “Because the films left out so much. I want more of Voldemort’s backstory, Teddy Lupin, and everything else. A lot of it wasn’t even mentioned in the movies. I want scenes like the snowball fight in the first books, Fred and George tickling the pear to get into the kitchen, etc. And I really hope that things like that will happen in the new series. Because that would be a dream come true.”

More about the new series and Daniel Radcliffe

HBO Max has already released a first teaser for the series. Also certain is the participation of JK Rowling, who is now often criticized for her critical statements on the recognition of trans people.

Each of the seven books was reportedly set to have its own season, but HBO Max content CEO Casey Bloys said the project will run for “10 consecutive years.”

Incidentally, Radcliffe recently became a father – and shared photos of some “Harry Potter” actors on Instagram – on the one hand pictures in her film role, on the other hand with her children. He captioned it: “The Next Generation”.
