New generation takes over at Roder Boys Choir

At the age of 24, Jaap de Kok takes over the leadership of the Roder Jongenskoor. He is the new conductor and tonight is the official artistic transfer at the aptly named concert Next Generation.

Jaap de Kok takes over from artistic director and conductor Rintje te Wies. For sixteen years he led the Roder Jongenskoor, but Te Wies thinks it has been nice. “At some point it’s time to pass the baton to someone else. Preferably someone younger. I turned 64 in August, so the retirement age is approaching.

Conductor Rintje te Wies managed to track down his successor himself. “I came into contact with Jaap de Kok at performances in the Martinikerk in Groningen. I discovered that he studied organ, he studies choral conducting, studies singing. He may well be the ideal successor, I thought. comes your way, you must ask him before someone else steals him.” And with success, last year De Kok already worked as a singing teacher with the choir. Rintje te Wies will remain associated with the Kampen Boys Choir as artistic director and conductor.
