New games for the first time in a completely open world

The developers of the globally successful Pokémon series surprised yesterday with the announcement of new games in the main series, which are due to be released later this year. In addition, fans can apparently look forward to a completely open game world for the first time.

As part of “Pokémon Legends: Arceus”, Game Freak and Nintendo presented refreshing new game mechanics at the end of January after two decades of monotony. One of the most popular innovations is the approach to an open game world.

Strictly speaking, it is just a series of large areas, but the map design still stands out compared to the previously always linear worlds.

No more small sub-areas

However, the division into several small areas has the disadvantage, for example, that players are repeatedly confronted with invisible walls. In a completely open game world, this problem occurs much less frequently.

According to the developers, even the cities should now be seamlessly embedded in the game world. No limits, no loading times, no interruptions in the flow of the game: According to comments on social media, these are precisely the features that many fans want.

According to a post on the official Pokémon website, another point of criticism is taken to heart: the world should be made much more lively and varied than in “Pokémon Legends: Arceus”.

In the future, wild Pokémon can be encountered “in the sky, in the sea, in the forests and on the streets” of the cities.

Release in 2022

After Nintendo initially only presented the English names of the new games, the German names are now also known: “Pokémon Karmesin” and “Pokémon Purpur”.

By the way, fans don’t have to wait too long for the release of the new offshoots of the successful series. The games should be out by the end of this year.
