The Minister council approved at its meeting this Monday the Royal Decree-Law on economic sustainability measures in the field of transport, which includes the regulation of free rail services between September 1 and December 31 for recurrent users (who use the train in their daily mobility), announced by the President of the Government during the Debate on the State of the Nation for Cercanías, Rodalies and Media Distancia. Tickets can be purchased from August 24.
In the case of services Cercanías and Rodalies will create a new subscription valid for these four months –in order to avoid sporadic travelers– which will include a deposit of 10 euros that will be returned at the end of the period if more than 16 trips have been made (average of 4 trips per month). The payment of the deposit will be made automatically, when the purchase is through a credit card, or you must be requested at the box office, in case of cash payment. “The deposit is to guarantee that the subscription has been used in at least four journeys”, clarified the minister spokesperson, Elizabeth Rodriguezat the press conference after the ministers’ meeting.
Furthermore, in the case of transport consortiasuch as the Madrid Regional Transport Consortium, the Ministry of Transport will assume the cost paid to Renfe as long as they deduct “the price of the subscription the money they stop paying.” According to sources from this department, when a monthly subscription is purchased that is valid for Cercanías and Metro, the transport consortium enters the total price and, subsequently, it pays a part to Renfe that corresponds to the Cercanías services.The consortium can avoid this payment, but for this it will have to reduce the price of the transport subscription.

Renfe will suspend the sale of all the usual multi-trip tickets and subscriptions during the period and will only be available for sale one-way or round-trip tickets at regular fares.
