New fire station on the NCH grounds? Drop-in meeting for local residents to discuss the plan

The fire station on Industrieweg in Hoogeveen is in need of replacement. After research, the current barracks no longer meet today’s requirements. The municipality has chosen the old Euromaster and NCH site on the Griendtsveenweg from three locations.

In collaboration with the Drenthe Safety Region (VRD), the municipality tested all three locations on a number of aspects: Sufficient (buildable) surface area, sufficient distance to existing buildings in relation to environmental regulations, within existing urban area, availability within a reasonable period, representative location, suitable for urban planning, good visibility location and coverage of arrival and arrival times.

Euromaster and NCH site

Of the three locations examined, the former Euromaster site on the Griendtsveenweg came out best. It also concerns a small part of the former NCH location. This location offers sufficient space for a new barracks and is good for turnout and arrival times.

In addition, the site is conveniently located in relation to the living and working locations of the current volunteers. However, the soil is contaminated by the factory that stood here until April 2005. The municipality must allocate 1.5 million euros to clean the ground. We are currently examining whether the soil can be reused, which could further reduce costs.

Soil surveys dated

In the past, research has been done into the environmental soil conditions. The soil on the former NCH site is contaminated. Soil conditions of Euromaster are not yet known. The soil surveys are all older than five years and must therefore be carried out again.

The new fire station costs around 15 million euros, of which the municipality must contribute approximately 10 million euros. The rest of the amount is paid by VRD and the GGD. The safety region wants the barracks to also be accessible to residents by locating the GGD here. This combination can also be found in Assen.

Drop-in meeting

After the municipality has completed the participation phase, the preferred location is submitted to the municipal council for decision-making. After a decision has been made, the development of the construction can be continued. When the design is final, the investment and spatial procedure is started.

The municipality is organizing a walk-in meeting in the IT hub for local residents on Monday, November 27 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Here you will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide points of interest.
