New electronic beach wheelchair in Nieuwpoort

The Sun, Sea … Carefree project tries to make the beach optimally accessible for people with a handicap or temporary limitation. Every summer, the city of Nieuwpoort works together with Inter, the Flemish expertise center for accessibility, to offer people with reduced mobility assistance or adapted facilities.

The organization Zon, Zee … Zorgeloos also has its own base in Nieuwpoort-Bad with a fully equipped unit on the Zeedijk, near the Leopoldplein. From here you can go to the beach with one of the four beach wheelchairs. There is an adapted version for children. In addition, the Tiralo sea wheelchair can also be borrowed, ideal for moving around in the beach water.

Now there is something new in the range: the electric beach wheelchair. Nieuwpoort is renting one copy from Off The Road Wheelsystems from Oosterhout for the summer of 2023. It is a pilot project, explains Alderman for Accessibility Frans Lefevre: “With Sun, Sea … Carefree we strive to assist anyone who needs help. After all, it should be possible for everyone to discover the beach. In addition to regular beach wheelchairs, we are now launching an electric one. It guarantees an even more comfortable coastal experience, for the person in the wheelchair and the attendant who pushes it.”

The electric beach wheelchair is available daily from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. until Thursday, August 31, 2023. be borrowed from Sun, Sea … Carefree.
