The first plantings of marram grass were made in strips of 90 meters by 30 meters in October. The plants must now grow and will systematically retain more sand. Hikers are therefore urged not to trample the young plants. When the dunes are high enough, they will provide better protection against flooding. The plantings are part of the ‘Dune for Dike’ pilot project and fit in with the protection measures against rising sea levels.
