New design round for replacement of Sittard’s V&D building | 1Limburg

In November, more than 1,100 residents of Sittard-Geleen gave their opinion about the announced design. These reactions have been taken into account in the new tendering round. House on the Market
The location on the Markt in Sittard is a controversial topic for many Sittard residents. In the 1960s it was decided to demolish the historic town hall on the Markt and then build a building for the V&D on that spot. That building was an eyesore for many residents. After the departure of V&D, the demolition of the inside of the building started in early November.

The new building will include a multifunctional council chamber, meeting rooms, flexible workplaces and 30 homes. It will also be the new home of Visit Zuid-Limburg.

Mecanoo
The earlier design of the Huis aan de Markt, which was unveiled in November, was scrapped a month later. For example, the building designed by architectural firm Mecanoo did not meet the required number of homes and offices. It was the only tender that the municipality received.
