Kalidou Koulibaly is still under contract with SSC Napoli. But instead of a move within Italy, everything looks like a transfer to the island.
Most recently, there were already indications that Kalidou Koulibaly could leave SSC Napoli after 317 appearances. The defender’s contract expires next year. But instead of a transfer to Juventus Turin, it now looks like a new challenge in the Premier League.
As the journalist Fabrizio Romano writes on Twitter, Koulibaly is said to have landed in London late Wednesday evening and is now completing the medical check at Chelsea FC. After that he should fly to the team, which is currently in the training camp in Los Angeles.
Transfer fee of around 40 million under discussion
The transfer expert speaks of 38 million euros plus bonus payments as a possible transfer fee. “The Athletic” writes of 40 million euros.
In any case, Napoli makes a huge profit from the transfer. The defender came to Italy from Belgium’s KRC Genk in 2014 for €7.75m. Koulibaly is considered one of the best defenders whose contracts end next year.
