New clues to Steve Mahakena’s death lead police to nearby water

Three months after the violent death of 48-year-old tattoo artist Steve Mahakena in an apartment on Egholm in Hoofddorp, the police are going to search the ditches and pond in the area. Clues in the investigation lead the police to the water.

A spokesperson told NH this morning. He would not say what specifically they are looking for. “We keep it on track.” The police is supported in the search by the National Team Underwater Searches. It is unknown how long the search will take today.

The house where his body was found was not Steve’s. The resident found him there on March 7 around 11 a.m. seriously injured. Probably before Steve’s death a fight took place in the house. CPR was of no avail. The police interviewed the resident, but did not arrest him.

Steve’s death caused quite a stir in Hoofddorp and the surrounding area. A collection for the funeral of the beloved tattoo artist went through the roof. Many customers have fond memories of Steve. Some still had to have their tattoos finished by him.
