The departure of Juan Luis Manzur from the Cabinet forced the Government to reconfigure a key area, but one that has been relegated in recent years: the Federal Intelligence Agency. Manzur’s replacement will be the current head of the AFI, Agustín Rossi, and his place in the house of spies will be occupied by a woman: Ana Clara Alberdi, who until now was the organization’s second in command or “Lady 8”, as he calls it in the jargon of intelligence.
Alberdi is a trusted woman of rossi, who had already been his chief of staff when the man from Santa Fe was Minister of Defense. The Federal Intelligence Agency It has been intervened since the Fernández government took office and until now, no auditor has managed to get its statement approved in the Senate. Therefore, it is expected that Alberdi will also have the same fate as controller, without being named as Director.
Manzur returns to Tucumán before the elections in his province: he will be a candidate for lieutenant governor of Osvaldo Jaldo. Juan Manuel Olmos, Number two from Tucumán and a trusted man of President Alberto Fernández preferred to continue in his role since he manages a very low profile. And finally Rossi was chosen: the president needs a political man, who acts as a spokesman when necessary.
Rossi, a civil engineer, has been a member of Peronism since the 1980s, and has vast experience in both the Legislative and Executive branches. He was always closely linked to the vice president Cristina Kirchner and the Kirchnerist specter within the PJ, but in recent years he has been getting closer to the President until he has gained his trust.
