Düsseldorf (AP) – Alexander Jobst is the new CEO of Fortuna Düsseldorf. As announced by the second division soccer club, the 48-year-old marketing expert will succeed Thomas Röttgermann, who will soon be leaving, and will start work on February 14th.

“With Alexander Jobst we are now getting one of the top managers in the football industry who has proven over many years that he can work in an emotional environment,” commented the chairman of the supervisory board, Björn Borgerding

Last summer, Jobst resigned from his position as a board member of the Bundesliga relegated FC Schalke 04 after ten years. Because he wanted to push the spin-off of the Schalke professional department from the entire club, Jobst was considered a stimulus by many Schalke fans. Threats against himself and his family contributed to his withdrawal from the Revierclub.

Jobst is in the second division 13. before a difficult task. Röttgermann, who has been in office since April 2019, had rejected an offer from the Supervisory Board to extend his contract. All attempts to make club legend Klaus Allofs Röttgermann’s successor were unsuccessful. The 65-year-old former Fortuna professional and trainer sees his responsibility more in the sporting area and will therefore take over the sports department with immediate effect and continue to be responsible for communication. “Klaus Allofs will take on responsibility for the sporting area, so that with this board constellation we see the club very well equipped for the future,” commented Borgerding.

In addition, Arnd Hovemann will be appointed CFO for three years from April 15. The 48-year-old sports economist has been Director of Finance, Human Resources and Legal at Fortuna since August 2019. The previous sports director Uwe Klein will be released from his duties on January 12th. The 52-year-old worked for Fortuna in various functions for decades.
