New campus in Emmen must put sustainable Drenthe on the map

On a special campus in Emmen, students are made enthusiastic about a future in sustainable energy. And that is not a superfluous luxury, say the initiators. Because many people are desperately needed, especially with a view to the future.

Various parties work together on the so-called Greenwise Campus. In the field of education, this is between intermediate vocational education, higher vocational education and university. “We have to prepare for the future. Become future-proof and agile,” says Ineke Ganzeveld of the Greenwise Campus.

The idea: a university student conducts research, the higher professional education student applies it and the senior secondary vocational education student carries it out. Ganzeveld: “You need that cooperation and everyone has their own talent. It is not more or less, but it is just different. You need all three.”

The role of the campus is mainly to bundle talents. “There are many initiatives and we try to bring them together,” says Ganzeveld.

But more is needed to get and keep trained personnel in Drenthe. Ganzeveld: “Companies must offer internships, and cooperation is important. Because issues from the business community form input for the lessons.”

Visibility is also important. “To be visible to the young generation. And to draw them towards technology and companies. But also retraining for people who have not chosen a technical profession and want to.” And perspective is also important. “Show that you can get jobs here and live nicely.”
