New book published about Loon: ‘New people at 49 addresses is quite a change’

It has been 25 years since the village of Loon existed for exactly seven hundred years. That was crowned with the book Wages through the years. An addition to the residents’ history was added in 2008. Now, fifteen years later, the village has changed further and it was time for an additional book: Then… and furthermore throughout the years.

The makers of the latest book are residents of the village. Nelie Schouten, Lia Tiems and Martin Ratering have been working on the book for two years.

Schouten thought it was high time to update the occupancy history. “We have been keeping track of the occupancy history since 1998. The last time we did this was in 2008 and now we felt it necessary to do so again.”

Because a lot has changed in the village in those fifteen years. “There are a total of 118 houses in Loon and since 2009 new people have come to live at 49 addresses. That is quite a change,” says Schouten.

While the initial intention was to only update the residents’ history, the trio came across more photos from the village. And they started collecting them. “We went to the Drenthe Archives and also received many photos from private collections. We used that to create the photo book.”

The book was presented to the village last night and it received nothing but great responses, according to a proud Lia Tiems. “Everyone was enthusiastic and walked out with the book under their arm.”

RTV Drenthe went out with two of the three makers in Loon. Curious about how the village has changed? Then watch the video below.
