New bicycle and pedestrian bridge in Kortrijk opened

With the opening of the Reepbrug, a quarter of a century after the start of the Leie works, the seventh and last bridge on Kortrijk’s territory has been completed. Not a car bridge like the old Reepbrug that was demolished during the Leie works in 2008, but a bridge for pedestrians and cyclists.

In February 2021, De Vlaamse Waterweg nv started construction in collaboration with the city of Kortrijk. The bridge was put in place in October. On Thursday evening, the construction of the paths to the bridge and the park on Buda Island was completed and the Reepbrug can be opened for use.

Bicycle lifts

There is seven meters of space between the water surface and the bridge to allow ships up to three container layers to pass through. The bridge has a span of 62 meters. Cyclists can get on and off the bridge on both sides of the Leie via spacious bicycle lifts. They will be operational from the end of next week. (Read more below the photos.)
