In the past few days, reports have been circulating in the media that Manuel Neuer’s planned comeback could be delayed. Now the FC Bayern keeper shows up on the training ground.
Can Manuel Neuer still manage to get fit in time for the start of the Bundesliga on August 18? In the last few days, there have been reports that the 37-year-old is not yet able to perform. Neuer himself showed no doubts. “I’m doing great,” said the Munich captain: “My leg has gotten better, more time has passed.”
Exactly 213 days after his fateful ski tour, the national goalkeeper started the next stage on his long journey back on Monday. With a few other professionals, including the recently injured or ailing Serge Gnabry, Matthijs de Ligt and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, he completed the obligatory internal examination before the start of the actual pre-season.
Trained newer
And apparently it went well. One day after the examination, the goalkeeper returned to the training ground on Tuesday. In addition to goalkeeper coach Michaelrechner, physio Knut Stamer also accompanied the 37-year-old’s session on Säbener Straße. Videos showed Neuer doing easy, goalkeeper-specific exercises.
Participation in the training camp is still open
Whether the national keeper can travel with the team to the five-day training camp at Tegernsee on Saturday remains to be seen. As the “BILD” reported, Neuer cannot yet complete all the exercises and has to take breaks again and again. Since breaking his lower leg in December, Neuer has not played a game for the German record champions.
