Silverstone (AP) – Sebastian Vettel’s new Formula 1 team boss Mike Krack wants to keep the four-time world champion at Aston Martin in the long term.
“Our task is to provide him with an efficient structure,” said the Luxembourg crack at a media round. Then there is a chance “to keep him for longer”. Vettel announced his move from Ferrari to the English factory team in September 2020. According to the announcement, the contract is valid for “2021 and beyond”.
Krack has known the 34-year-old from Heppenheim since they worked together at BMW-Sauber. At the end of August 2006, Vettel did his first practice laps in the premier class of motorsport in Istanbul on a Friday. Krack was the chief engineer at the time. “We used to be very close and I have the impression that we will be very close again,” said Krack, who spoke of a “special connection” to the second driver alongside Canadian Lance Stroll.
Vettel has “huge experience” and is a smart guy. “We have a top man in terms of driving,” emphasized Krack, who replaced Otmar Szafnauer, who had switched to Alpine. “He knows exactly what he needs to go faster.” Vettel can also control the development of the racing team.
