It’s been three years since the Red Hot Chili Peppers fired guitarist Josh Klinghoffer. It wasn’t without reason – after all, Klinghoffer replaced none other than John Frusciante, the legendary guitarist who joined the Peppers in 1991 with “Blood Sugar Sex Magic” the breakthrough came. Since then, the band has released two new albums, Unlimited Love and Return Of The Dream Canteen (both 2022).

In the Brazilian podcast “5 Notas” Klinghoffer said that he thought the band had “made cooler music with him”, like “Exclaim‘ first reported. The partly unreleased songs of the band with him on the guitar are simply better. Klinghoffer hadn’t even been able to hear “Return Of The Dream Canteen” to the end. Klinghoffer added that he was very reluctant to speak negatively about other people’s music. But he was “shocked” when he heard the new Chili Peppers album.

Deep love for John Frusciante

To smooth things over a bit, the 43-year-old guitarist spoke about the possibility of playing concerts with John Frusciante. The two had released the joint album “A Sphere In The Heart Of Silence” in 2004. They no longer have any real contact, said Klinghoffer. Nevertheless, he has “enormous love” for Frusciante. He adores Frusciante as one of his favorite musicians and songwriters.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers released two studio albums with Josh Klinghoffer on guitar. “I’m With You” (2011) entered the German charts at number 1 and went platinum. “The Getaway” (2016) reached number 2 in the German charts and was certified gold.

Since he left, Klinghoffer has appeared as a live musician with Pearl Jam, among other things.
