Elton John has reportedly completed a new album with Brandi Carlile. In a roundtable discussion, Pete Townshend (The Who) spoke about their joint project. The LP was created in Los Angeles and is said to have been completed in record time: the two musicians only worked on its completion for two weeks.
“One of the best things they’ve ever done”
In a Dec. 21 panel with Clash Music, Townshend shared that he is in contact with John almost daily. He confirmed that the “I’m Still Standing” singer spoke to the 42-year-old about a possible album in Los Angeles in 2022. At that time, the American performed with him at the Dodgers Stadium during the Brit’s final tour – “Farewell Yellow Brick Road”. After the end of his farewell tour, Elton John is said to have been disoriented, the 78-year-old reveals. “He’s so overcome with feelings of loss because he doesn’t know what to do next.” The Who guitarist has been a close friend of John’s for over 50 years and said he turned to Carlile to help him to work on a joint project: “He just went to LA to make an album with Brandi Carlile. They recorded a record in two weeks. He says it’s one of the best things they’ve ever done.”
The British musician did not reveal any further details about the record, such as a release date, on “Clash Music”.
Are Elton John and Brandi Carlile soulmates?
The 42-year-old already spoke about her relationship with the “Rocket Man” in 2021, telling “People”: “I think we are in the position of being soulmates. Our friendship is an amazing one.” They have had a close partnership since performing together at Dodgers Stadium.
In November, John revealed that he and his longtime songwriting partner Bernie Taupin had also recorded an album together. However, Townshend did not clarify whether this is the record that Carlile is also involved in.
