Tool are on a concert tour in the first months of 2024. That’s why bassist Justin Chancellor now expects the band to go into the studio in the “second half of the year” to start recording the follow-up to “Fear Inoculum” (2019).
Tool will start their US tour this week, on Wednesday (January 10th), in Baltimore and will also be seen in Europe from the end of May, including three gigs in Germany:
- May 25, 2024, Hanover – ZAG Arena
- June 8th, 2024, Berlin – Parkbühne Wuhlheide
- June 18, 2024, Cologne – Lanxess Arena
As Chancellor told “Consequence”, the plan is for the gap between the release of their albums to now be shorter than the 13 years between “10,000 Days” and “Fear Inoculum”. “Well, there’s a lot to put together,” said the bassist about the state of things in terms of studio recording. “As always, we have a lot of ideas, a lot of material that hasn’t been used – we’re constantly writing new things. When I write something, I immediately know it’s for Tool.”
Speaking specifically about the ongoing process of developing new songs, Chancellor said: “I would say we’ll be back home after Europe in June, and in the second half of the year we’ll sit down together again and try to put some of it together. (…) We’ll figure out how we can do it a little faster this time.”
Tool 2024: Is there an EP coming first?
Recently there was talk within the band that an EP should come onto the market first. But drummer Daney Carrey recently suggested to Revolver that various options were on the table. “It’s a really arduous process that we go through to finish a record and get it to the point where we’re all completely convinced,” he said. “In the long run, of course, it pays off because we never get tired of playing our songs. This creates a basis that we can all believe in.”
Tool are no longer signed to a label and can therefore decide what they want in terms of production and how they want to market the record. Drummer Carey also hinted that future releases could take a different process.
