Anastacia’s new album is imminent: “Our Songs” will be released on September 22nd – with twelve tracks from German artists translated into English. There’s everything from German pop to rock.
The American tries out Johannes Oeding’s “On Good Days”, The Kelly Family’s “An Angel” and Sarah Connor’s “How Beautiful You Are”. There is also a rock ballad by the Scorpions, as well as “Through the Monsun”, the biggest hit by the German pop-rockers Tokio Hotel. She covers “Cello” by Udo Lindenberg.
She had this to say about choosing the songs: “When I cover a song, it’s all about whether it’s good. Point. Just because it’s in German doesn’t mean it’s not a good song, I just don’t understand it.”
The suggestion for the album came from producer Christian Geller, who has worked with Heino and Giovanni Zarrella in the past. “I thought, there’s no way I can do this,” Anastacia says of her reaction to the project. “How come? I don’t speak German, how is that even supposed to work?”
An album of English covers of German songs may seem strange at first, but for Anastacia it’s not without reason. Although she is less well known in the United States, the German market has always been lucrative for the singer. So it almost seems like a thank you to their German fans.
