New agreements should combat waiting times and a lack of supply of rental properties in Noordenveld

Increasing waiting times for rental properties and a lack of choice. To combat the problems surrounding rental properties in the municipality, the municipality of Noordenveld wants to build an additional 250 to 300 rental properties in the next six years.

This and more is contained in the Noordenveld housing vision, on the basis of which agreements were signed yesterday between the municipality, housing associations and tenant organizations.

“The agreements are a consequence of the Housing Vision that was adopted by the council in 2023,” says councilor Kirsten Ipema (Municipal Interests). “It states that we want to have enough affordable homes of good quality, for young and old.” The so-called performance agreements apply for the period 2024-2028 and should provide an incentive for the parties involved to start building social housing.

“The themes of availability, affordability, housing, well-being, care and sustainability are not new. What is new is that we work through agendas per village, i.e. area-oriented,” says Esther Borstlap, director of Woonborg. “We identify together which developments are needed, focused on the wishes and needs of residents of the villages. We approach plans integrally and – where possible – tackle them together.”

“There are currently no concrete plans for large numbers,” says councilor Ipema. “They will only be once the homes have been registered. But by signing this, we show that we want to work with the parties involved and come up with good plans together.”

Woonborg currently has 2,281 rental properties in the municipality of Noordenveld. Actium has 373. “We are now going to work with the municipality to look for locations to make construction plans,” says Melanie Maatman of Actium.

The majority (125 to 175 homes) should be located in Roden. Between 60 and 85 are registered in Peize and Norg should have 25 to 35 rental properties. A maximum of 25 rental properties have been registered in the other centers of the municipality.
