By Stefanie Hofeditz

March makes everything new! BZ presents three exciting culinary discoveries.

1. Pleasure temple with reaching for the stars!

Fine dining was invented in Paris. It’s called “fine dining” today – and stands for outstanding cuisine, a beautiful dining room and professional service. Now Berlin has another temple of pleasure with star ambitions: “Victor & Victoria” opened on Gendarmenmarkt.

On the ground floor it is a relaxed deli, with dishes such as truffle pasta, on the first floor chef Stephan Krogmann creates, for example, “Brandenburg hunting roebuck, saddle roasted in aromatics, camppot pepper, celeriac, Piedmont hazelnuts & Rouennaise sauce”.

2. Italian delicatessen in trendy packaging!

The Berlin food start-up “Mamma Natur” brings vegan Italian products in organic quality to the market for the home. With the concept, Giuliano Pascarella’s team has secured six-figure financing. Also part of the investor team: “Time for Bread” founder Dirk Steiger.

There are, among other things, seven sauces (eg Arrabbiata), Zuppa di Patate (potato soup), olive oil and pasta. “With ‘Mamma Natur’ we want to produce food that is in harmony with health, nature and the environment,” says founder Pascarella. “The name stands for a return to the essentials: a few main ingredients with extremely high quality and a lot of taste, just like Mamma Natur offers.”

3. Exciting and bizarre: “The pantry and cabinet of curiosities of the eccentric kitchen”!

The team of authors Moritz Rauchhaus and Tobias Roth presents a unique collection of recipes, menus, lists and anecdotes on 320 pages. From the postcard that Franz Kafka wrote to a friend from Berlin, enthusiastically praising the vegetarian dishes (semolina with raspberry juice and lettuce with cream), to “demanding terms for banal things”, e.g. à l’anglaise = with butter, until to the recipe for a 1679 sleeping potion made from hemp.
