One of Europe’s most international wine events this year is in July in Helsinki.
Helsinki will become the center of wine culture for a week, when the annual meeting of the international sommelier association ASI will be held in the city.
ASI board member and restaurateur of Muru restaurants Samuil Angelov is really excited.
– Finland is also the first non-wine-producing country and the first Nordic country to organize the annual meeting of ASI, Angelov enthuses.

Restaurant and wine industry professionals from 65 different countries are arriving in Helsinki. In connection with the meeting, the participants will also get to know Finnish restaurant culture and know-how, as well as high-quality Finnish food and drink products.
According to Angelov, everyone who wants to can enjoy the event. There will be a Wine Symposium organized by Suomen Sommelier, open to everyone, for a fee, where we will delve deeper into – what else but – the subtleties of wine.
As in previous symposia, there will be a discussion about current themes and the future of the wine industry. This year, biodynamism has been chosen as the central theme.
The goal of the entire event is to highlight Helsinki as the European center of the restaurant and wine industry and show the city as an international city that enables the development of the wine and restaurant industry.

– It is a great honor to be able to welcome international friends and colleagues to Finland and Helsinki. At the same time, we can show what a wonderful country and urban culture we have. We are proud of Finnish restaurant and wine expertise, Angelov states in the press release.
The main events of the ASI annual meeting are organized in Little Finland, but in addition there is also a wine industry program at Klaus K, Ravintola Pastis and Haltia nature and camping center.
Recently, food and drink have also become internationally significant tourism attraction factors.
The Nordic Michelin stars were recently awarded in Turku. Like Turku, Helsinki also wants to invest in food tourism.
The core purpose of the Wine Symposium is to bring wine industry professionals together to discuss and learn from each other. In addition to the lectures, the program of the symposium includes guided tastings and a panel discussion focusing on the sustainable production of alcoholic beverages. The entire program of the symposium is in English.
The Wine Symposium: Biodynamic Impact event will take place on July 5 and 6 at Pikku-Finlandia in Helsinki. A two-day ticket costs €75.
Suomen Sommelierit ry is a non-profit organization that focuses on developing knowledge and understanding of wine and restaurant services.
