Neuendorf is heading into the European Championship year confidently

DFB President Bernd Neuendorf is looking forward to the home European Championship year 2024 with full confidence despite the German national team’s recent weak performance.

“Our national team will delight its fans again at the EURO, we are all convinced of that,” wrote Neuendorf in his New Year’s greeting on the homepage of the German Football Association.

“We cannot be satisfied with the results of the 2023 international match year (…),” admitted the president. “But national coach Julian Nagelsmannn and his team will use the months leading up to the European Championship opening game on June 14th to optimally prepare the team for the tournament.” Then Germany doesn’t just want to be a perfect host and organize a carefree football festival. But: In addition, the base should benefit from the tournament. Sustainability is also a declared goal.

“I’m really looking forward to this tournament,” wrote Neuendorf. “We will see exciting games and experience a great atmosphere in the stands. It will be a European festival of football! People from all parts of our continent will come to us to support their teams. We will present ourselves as a friendly, warm and open country .”

Neuendorf is also optimistic about the joint application with the Netherlands and Belgium to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup. He hopes “that FIFA will make the right decision at its congress in Bangkok in May.” In terms of sport, the initial goal is to take part in the Olympics in Paris.
