Netflix is one of the largest streaming providers worldwide. Users have the opportunity to choose from a variety of series and films – including successful in-house productions such as “Stranger Things”, “Dark”, “Money Heist” and “Mindhunter”. Maybe you are already thinking about subscribing to Netflix, but are wondering what the current subscription costs are? Here you can see all Netflix prices at a glance and get further information about the practical streaming offer.
Netflix prices at a glance – current subscription costs and pricing models
Netflix has now increased its monthly prices, but only the Standard and Premium price models have become more expensive by one and two euros respectively. However, if you have the basic tariff, you will continue to pay the same price: 7.99 euros.
Important to know: Netflix recently abolished the cheapest ad-free subscription for new customers in Germany. The entry-level subscription at a price of 7.99 euros per month is only valid for existing customers. Instead, you can choose a cheap basic subscription with advertising, which only costs 4.99 euros per month. However, you should then expect four to five minutes of advertising per hour.
- Basic price with advertising: 4.99 euros
- Basic price: 7.99 euros
- Stock price: 12.99 euros
- Premium price: 17.99 euros
In terms of content, there are no differences in the tariffs – every Netflix customer has access to all films and series that the streaming service has to offer. If Netflix is to be used in a multi-person household, we recommend a standard or premium subscription because then several streams can be used at the same time. For the standard tariff, you can watch on two devices; premium customers can even use four devices at the same time with the account. So if you want to share a Netflix subscription, you may even get cheaper with a premium subscription. However, if you want to use the provider alone and don’t value image quality, you’re well advised to go with the cheap basic tariff.
These are the differences in image quality depending on the tariff:
- Basic subscription: SD quality
- Standard subscription: HD quality
- Premium subscription: HD and Ultra HD quality
The inexpensive basic version is often sufficient for viewing on a laptop. However, when streaming on a large television, it may well be worth investing in a more expensive subscription in the long term in order to be able to watch films and series in HD or even Ultra HD with HDR support.
By the way, you can easily pay for Netflix via PayPal, credit card or direct debit.
Netflix account sharing: What you should know
Sharing accounts – so-called account sharing – now also costs money. You pay an additional euro per user and per month. This is to prevent account details from being shared among friends and family members. This has already brought thousands of new users to Netflix.
Watch Netflix for free: Is there a free trial month?
If you didn’t have a Netflix account before, you could take advantage of a free trial month as a new customer so you could get an idea of the streaming offering for yourself. The first monthly payment was then due in the second month if the subscription was not canceled within the first 30 days. However, Netflix has now discontinued this offer.
Cancel or change your Netflix subscription – here’s how
Practical for all Netflix customers: There is neither a minimum term nor a long notice period. The subscription can be canceled at any time for the next month. The tariff can also be changed easily.
