Netflix is once again sending many new films into the streaming race this year. TECHBOOK reveals which big titles await us in spring.
Netflix has announced some of the film highlights for 2022. From action to science fiction to comedy, animation and romance, there is a wide variety of productions in the catalog of the industry leader from Los Gatos. So that it doesn’t get too confusing, we’ve taken a closer look at a selection of films that are particularly worth seeing and that subscribers shouldn’t miss. We’ve also compiled a list of all the Netflix movie releases for 2022.
Here’s what’s new for Netflix this month:
Against the Ice (now)
A Danish expedition wants to prove that the USA has no claim to Greenland and goes into the ice to recover records of lost expeditions. For Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (“Game of Thrones”), this historical routine expedition in 1909 developed into an ice-cold struggle for survival. By the way, Charles Dance is another companion from “Game of Thrones”. Our opinion: Especially fans of the HBO saga have the opportunity to experience both stars together in top form.
Home team (now)
Two years after the Super Bowl, NFL coach Sean Payton (Kevin James) is fired. He returns to his hometown and reconnects with his 12-year-old son as he coaches his football team. The sports comedy reunites the “Grown Ups” cast of Kevin James, Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider and Taylor Lautner. Definitely a must for true fans of the comedy stars.
The Adam Project (March 11)
Star-studded sci-fi: Adam (Ryan Reynolds) becomes a time-travelling pilot who meets his younger self in the past. Both are forced to work together in order not only to save their own future. That turns out to be not so easy, by the way, because the Adams aren’t as close to themselves as one might expect. Featuring: Jennifer Garner (Alias), Zoe Saldana (Avatar, Star Trek) and Mark Ruffalo (The Avengers).
Rescued by Ruby (March 17)
It tells the story of State Trooper Dan (Grant Gustin), who has long hoped to lead the police rescue dog squadron. However, he never got a chance to do so. Meanwhile, the street dog Ruby dreams of a new home at the animal shelter. Destiny brings Dan and Ruby together. In the touching tale based on a true story, “The Flash” actor Grant Gustin shows his emotional side and accompanies the audience on a special journey.
Along for the Ride (April 22)
In the summer before college, Auden meets the mysterious Eli. Both suffer from insomnia. Eli becomes Auden’s “tour guide” through the night to show Auden the happy, carefree life of a teenager. Auden comes to know the fullest of this new life that she never knew she wanted. Along for the Ride is based on the 2009 young adult novel by Sarah Dessen. A moving story starring Emma Passarow and Belmont Cameli. The young actors will be accompanied by, among others, Kate Bosworth (“Superman Returns”) and Andie MacDowell (“Groundhog Day”).
Operation Mincemeat (May 11)
In 1943, Europe and the world were plunged into the chaos of World War II. With an ingenious move, the two brilliant secret agents Ewan Montagu (Colin Firth) and Charles Cholmondeley (Matthew Macfadyen) want to decisively influence the war and free the world from the stranglehold of Hitler’s Germany. At the center of the plan is a corpse with false papers, which washes up on the coast of Spain and is intended to lure the Germans down the wrong path.
Senior Year (May 13)
Ruby is one of the most popular girls in her high school in 1997. She’s risen all the way to captain of her cheerleading team, dates the quarterback and even becomes prom queen. During a pyramid formation by her cheerleading team, Ruby falls and then falls into a coma. 20 years later she wakes up as a now 37-year-old woman and wants to go back to her former school and, above all, the prom crown. A must-see high school comedy from Rebel Wilson, starring Alicia Silverstone (“Clueless”) that returns to her roots.
