Netflix is introducing a new category – the reason is curious

Netflix is introducing a new movie category. TECHBOOK reveals what it’s all about and how the streaming service came up with this idea.

Netflix is already quite fragmented in its film categories. Instead of just comedy or crime, there are also mind games, for example. The newest category called “Short-Ass Movies” is something very special. The title can probably be translated as “damn short films”. The inspiration for the category and the resulting casual name came from a piece on the American comedy show “Saturday Night Live”.

Pete Davidson, the US comedian and the newcomer to Kim Kardashian’s side, made fun of films that were too long on Netflix in a music video. He just doesn’t have the attention span for long films. In the funny rap song called “Short-Ass Movie”, Davidson is supported by US rapper Gunna, among others.

Netflix is quick to implement Short-Ass Movies

In response to the video and the song, the streaming giant was quick to implement the “Short-Ass Movies” category. German users also have access to it and can find films there that are a maximum of 90 minutes long. Under the link https://www.netflix.com/browse/genre/81603903 there are in turn individual genres that the algorithm has selected for you anyway and also displays them in the normal film menu.

This makes “Short-Ass Movies” more than just a little gag. If you have a maximum of one and a half hours, you actually get a great selection of old and new films here. Netflix even shows short films that you have already started here under “Continue Watching”.
