The new names of gas stations have aroused surprise.

Finnish users of the Google Maps program have had to rub their eyes while searching for petrol stations. For example, if you search for Neste K gas stations in the Helsinki metropolitan area, you will find several in the search results, but now under the name Nisti K.
The spelling of gas stations varies, but usually the official name of a Neste gas station is “Neste” replaced by “Nist”.

The name changes are likely to apply more widely to the Helsinki metropolitan area. However, the names have also changed more widely in Uusimaa and, for example, in Kerava.
Google Maps allows users to suggest changes to their business listing. According to Google’s support site, it’s really easy to suggest changes to your information.
– If you know a particular place, you can give feedback on it. Your feedback will help Google Maps decide if the location information should be changed, Google will tell you.

In this case, it has probably been the case that the pranksters have put in enough calls for proposals, at which point Google has marked the new information as accurate and changed the names of the gas stations. Such cases are by no means unusual.
As for Neste’s communications, Iltalehti was informed that the matter will not be commented on, as the matter concerns Neste K stations operated through Kesko. Iltalehti did not receive a reply from Kesko.
