• Volldal wants to make the world a better place
As early as mid-2021, Jon André Løkke announced that after more than five years at the helm of the company, he wanted to give up his position as CEO. A suitable successor was also found and so Løkke handed over the baton to Håkon Volldal on July 1, 2022 and moved to the board of directors as desired.
Experienced CEO
Although Håkon Volldal, who studied at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), is a relatively unknown manager in this country, he already has experience in leading a global player. Before joining NEL ASA, he was already CEO at Q-Free ASA, a listed logistics expert headquartered in Trondheim that develops intelligent solutions for tolls and traffic management. Before that, the now 45-year-old held various management positions at well-known corporations such as the consulting firm McKinsey & Company and at TOMRA Systems, one of the world’s leading suppliers of recycling machines. According to his LinkedIn entry, during his professional career he was able to gain experience in the European, North American and Asian markets, including a two-year stay in the USA.
“I’ve been looking forward to this day for a long time,” said the new CEO when he took office. At first, he does not seem to want to change NEL’s previous direction and strategy: “We will continue to develop our company and our technology offering, support our customers in the decarbonization of their businesses and maintain our position as the market leader in green hydrogen technologies”.
create a better world
“NEL is an exciting company with a bright future, not only commercially but also as an important part of the green energy transition,” said Håkon Volldal, explaining what excites him about the company. He continued, “I want to spend my professional life in companies that make the world a better place, and NEL is undoubtedly one such company.”
About NEL
Nel ASA is a global hydrogen giant based in Oslo, Norway. The hydrogen specialist covers the entire value chain – from production to storage and distribution to filling stations.
NEL is also concentrating on the production of so-called green hydrogen, i.e. hydrogen which, in contrast to so-called gray hydrogen, is not produced with coal-based electricity but with renewable electricity. So far, green hydrogen is not yet suitable for mass production for cost reasons. But NEL wants to change that.
