Neil Young has announced that he apparently wants to be part of the line-up at Glastonbury Festival again. On New Year’s Day he withdrew from his plans to appear at the British open-air event and was criticized.

Everything at the beginning

The songwriter now clarified the situation on his blog “Neil Young Archives”. “Due to an error in information, I decided not to play the Glastonbury festival, which I have always loved,” said the singer.

A few days earlier he had made a point of canceling his gig with harsh words. “We were told that the BBC is now a partner of Glastonbury and is charging us a lot for things we don’t care about,” the 79-year-old wrote. “It appears that Glastonbury is now under corporate control. And it’s not the way I remember it,” he continued.

The BBC will broadcast and stream large parts of the event, which was shown worldwide for the first time last year. It was unclear exactly what Glastonbury and the network demanded of Young that upset him. So was it all just a misunderstanding? It seems so. “Fortunately, the festival is now back on our itinerary and we are looking forward to playing there! I hope to see you there!” wrote Young in his blog entry.

Neil Young is fit again after a break from recovery

The musician had to largely cancel his “Love Earth Tour” in 2024 due to illness. In a statement, he explained that his body had signaled him to take a break. After a short period of recovery, he returned to the stage with his band Chrome Hearts in September last year. In October he played a benefit gig with Stephen Stills and John Mayer in Lake Hughes, California. A summer tour is planned for 2025, in which some of the canceled concerts will be rescheduled. The Glastonbury Festival takes place from June 25th.
