The shock is good with Michael and Ursula Brink. The couple owns the Medemblik lunchroom De Steiger next to pizzeria Milano, where an explosive went off in front of the door last night. “I’ve never heard such a loud bang.”
Their son sleeps behind the building where the explosive went off. “He immediately sat up,” Michael tells a reporter from NH News. “He immediately called 911.” Micheal and Ursula also went straight to the blast, with a fire extinguisher in hand. When he arrived his son was already putting the fire out.
Fire mass
Michael has looked back at the incident on the CCTV footage of his sandwich shop. “You really see a large mass of fire,” he explains. “I recognize a cobra (heavy fireworks ed.), but this was more serious.”
Both cannot imagine that this is a targeted action. “They are very nice people,” Ursula explains. But according to Michael, the images show how someone puts the explosive right in front of the pizzeria. He has since handed over the footage to the police.
Restless night
“I’ve never heard such a bang,” says Ursula. She had heard smaller explosions all evening, but according to her it was just young people with some fireworks. “But this was really not normal. Really bizarre.”
After the bang, it remained a restless night for the couple. “You just don’t sleep well anymore.”
