Resident concerns in Reinickendorf: At the end of August, 65 underage unaccompanied refugees moved into a newly renovated house on Baseler Strasse.
The new residents: young men, mostly 16 years old, from Syria, Afghanistan, Turkey and Ukraine. They are supposed to stay for eight to nine months. Then new youngsters move in.
According to the non-profit operator Navitas, the young refugees in the dormitory have a regular daily routine, are integrated into clubs and receive German courses. 4.5 social workers look after ten young people.
But local residents are worried. A mother: “We are afraid to send our children to school alone.”
It is precisely this fear that politicians and caregivers are trying to take away from people. “15 young people arrive here every day, and I have to accommodate them very quickly. It is no longer a question of whether, but how,” explains State Secretary Falko Liecke (50, CDU) at an information event of the Education Senate on Tuesday evening.
There were also complaints about the fact that the neighborhood was only informed about the project by letter on the day of moving in.
The contract with the homeowner runs until at least the end of the year. Tegel, Lübars and Wittenau also take in young refugees.
