Residents of Braakven in Berlicum, where shooting took place on Friday evening, say they have been bothered by quarreling young people in their neighborhood for some time. “I am surprised that there have been shots now,” says a man who was walking his dog on Saturday morning. “I’m really shocked that youth of 15, 16, 17 years old are doing this. You can argue, but shooting goes too far.”

According to one man, the teenagers in the neighborhood are known as ‘somewhat rowdy’ and ‘they always set off fireworks’. But sometimes it goes further than that: “Someone who complains about them recently had their window smashed with a can of beer.”

“I heard a big argument in the street.”

A local resident suddenly heard a bang on Friday night while she was in bed. “At first I thought it was fireworks. I only heard one bang. I heard a big argument here on the street.” She didn’t hear what the argument was about.

The woman is quite shocked. “It’s strange that this happens here and that the whole street is suddenly full of police. There are often young people hanging around here on the cycle path, but you have them everywhere. I’ve never actually been bothered by it.”

Three minor suspects were arrested because of the shots. Two shortly after the shooting, one later in the night. The argument is said to have taken place near the Theresia school. The reason for the argument is not yet clear.
