In the vicinity of the Merelstraat in Oss, the reaction is shocked after the third shooting in a short time. In the early Wednesday morning a house was shelled there. According to local residents, the shooting was related to a deadly shooting in April that killed 23-year-old Mo. “It has almost become normal,” says a concerned local resident.
Several local residents say they heard a number of shots around five o’clock in the morning. “It is sad that we have come this far,” a local resident tells Omroep Brabant.
Most residents are willing to share their thoughts about the situation in the neighbourhood, but prefer to remain anonymous out of fear. “This shooting has to do with Mo who was shot here a few months ago. They’re friends of his, it’s all connected.”
In the Merelstraat they have just recovered after what was presumably a mistaken shooting last week on the other side of the street. “That was here on the corner. Of course they had to have the other corner house.”
“Evict all those criminals immediately.”
Some street dwellers prefer to move as quickly as possible. “They don’t stop at this. They only stop when someone is dead. The municipality must intervene very quickly and install cameras, but they refuse to do that until now.”
According to an angry local resident, housing association Brabant Wonen should also intervene immediately. “But they don’t. You have to leave your house for a cannabis plant, but now you don’t see them. They have to evict all those criminals immediately,” it sounds resolute.
In an earlier conversation with Omroep Brabant, the police already spoke about the hardening of drug violence in Oss. “Normally we saw these kinds of incidents in Amsterdam and Utrecht. In Brabant it was a bit more relaxed because families ruled the drug world. But that is changing and that is very worrying.”
