Spain, Italy, France or just Drenthe? Because why would you go abroad if you can also stay at the campsite nearby. Sixty residents of Hoogeveen thought so too. They are located at the neighborhood campsite at the Steenbergerpark in the De Weide district.
The neighborhood campsite is a national initiative that is settling in Drenthe for the first time. Hoogeveen has the scoop. The aim is to bring people from the neighborhood into contact with each other. “It doesn’t matter what your background is. Everyone can participate, and hopefully long-term contacts will result,” says Lisette Rinkema of the organization.
To start the day well, the campers have a nice breakfast together. Camping life naturally includes a game of badminton or a look at the petting zoo. But afterwards there are also some chores on the program, such as the dishes.
Two young ladies come running with a bowl of soapy water. Today they can do the dishes. There is a lot of giggling during cleaning. “Having fun making jokes, it goes faster,” says one. “Normally I don’t like doing it that much. But it’s much more fun with the two of us,” adds her neighbor.
