Students on Campus Uilenstede in Amstelveen were startled around 4:15 pm by a balcony fire in the yellow flat next to the Griffioen cultural center. A neighbor tried to put out the fire with a garden hose, but failed. It was very busy on campus because of the VU Introduction Days.
The fire started on a balcony on the third floor of the flat. It is unclear if the residents of the flat were at home when the fire started. The balcony is blackened on the outside. The boy who tried to put out the fire is being checked in hospital because he inhaled smoke.
Sports day
Today the sports day at Uilenstede was on the program of the first-year students who participate in the VU Introduction Days. The police also had a booth on campus for a long time. Police officer Jim taught the students about alcohol consumption, among other things. When the fire broke out, they had already left.
