Neglected dogs taken out of the house: “It stank and it was full of flies”

The National Animal Protection Inspectorate (MEMBER) has in a house in the IJmond four severely neglected dogs confiscated. This happened in a house where the dirt was piled up so high that there was hardly any walking space.

According to the inspection service, the house smelled and was teeming with flies. For privacy reasons, the service does not want to say which municipality it concerns. The LID confiscated the four dogs – three huskies and a sheepdog – after a tip-off at the Landelijke Meldpunt Dierenleed (144). Two of the dogs were permanently caged, one puppy was standing in its own urine. His fur had turned yellow from the moisture. The sheepdog was emaciated.

Fifty cats

According to a spokesperson, it happens province-wide on average several times per quarter that the National Animal Protection Inspectorate removes neglected animals from the home. “We recently had to act on someone who had fifty cats and six dogs at home,” said spokesman Jelko de Ruijter.

He says that residents such as those where the dogs have now been removed are often already on the radar of the community police officer, municipality or housing corporation. “But that is not the case in all cases. And it happens that people are on the radar, but that the animals are forgotten for a while.”

Crisis

According to De Ruijter, there is a relationship between animal neglect and the crisis. “You notice that people take less care of their pet due to a tighter wallet. They go to the vet less often and buy cheaper kibble. But what we found in this specific case has nothing to do with me. This is an excess. “

The dogs are housed in a secret shelter. The owners will receive a report. The Public Prosecution Service will examine the case, after which it will be determined what will happen to the animals.
