NEC has won the battle for Tjaronn Chery.
The midfielder wanted to return to the Netherlands for private reasons and his club Maccabi Haifa was willing to participate in a rental. In addition to NEC, SC Heerenveen, which is in danger of losing Thom Haye to Como, was also in the market for Chery, but the people of Nijmegen have come out on top.
The now 35-year-old Chery previously played in the Netherlands for FC Twente, SC Cambuur, RBC Roosendaal, FC Emmen, ADO Den Haag and FC Groningen and the Suriname international also had foreign adventures in England, China and Turkey. Chery’s contract with Maccabi Haifa runs until mid-2025.
The Israeli competition was halted for a few weeks in the autumn due to the war. Chery then maintained his fitness at FC Groningen.
