Nebel extends in Mainz and stays with KSC: “Immensely developed”

The loan from Mainz right winger Paul Nebel to Karlsruher SC will be extended to the 2023/24 season – the Bundesliga club previously extended the 20-year-old’s contract until 2025. “We believe that another year in the second division will have a positive effect will affect his further development,” explained FSV sports director Christian Heidel.

Nebel comes from the Rheinhessen youth team, from where he made the leap into the professional squad in the summer of 2020. During his loan he contributed ten goals in 31 competitive games for the second division, most recently scoring in the 2-0 win against 1. FC Kaiserslautern. “I am very happy to stay at KSC for another year. I feel extremely comfortable here with the team, the fans and everyone in charge and I’m very grateful to everyone for the trust they put in me. I’ll try to give that back with good performances,” said the youngster.

Karlsruhe head coach Christian Eichner said of the extension of the deal with Mainz 05: “It’s really a great sign that we can continue to work with Paul Nebel. He offers the perfect mix of quality and an interesting age for our squad. Together we will try to keep Paul’s performance at a very high level.” Christian Heidel added: “The loan to Karlsruhe brought Paul exactly what we had hoped for: He has developed immensely and was even able to improve at KSC establish as a regular player. Paul has now approached us with the wish to extend the loan by one year. We are happy to comply with this wish.”
