What are the best wireless headphones? And which one has the best value for money? The Consumers’ Association responds.
Earplugs are very popular these days, but headphones can still be a better choice in some cases. For example, if you make long sessions at home behind the computer. Headphones then offer more comfort for many people. In addition, the noise cancellation generally better with headphones than with earplugs. Earplugs with good noise canceling are available nowadays, but are often still very expensive.
The Consumers’ Association tests different types of headphones for sound quality, wearing comfort and battery life, among other things. A total of more than 180 headphones have been tested, which are currently reasonably to well available in stores. Of these, 69 models fall into the category of wireless headphones.
Within that category, headphones from Sennheiser came out as Best in the Test. A model from JBL is the Best Buy.

These Sennheiser headphones are an all-rounder. He scores well on almost all points. It is recommended for daily use. If you only use it occasionally, then the question is whether it is worth the high purchase price.
The quality of the sound is good. The bass is quite strong, but not too much. The headphones are comfortable for most people.
The noise canceling also works very well. You hear a lot less, especially low tones from cars or airplanes, for example. You can also turn off the noise cancelling.
The battery lasts a long time, more than 50 hours on a full charge. And that is striking for headphones with good noise canceling. In such a case, the battery usually lasts a lot less.
The Sennheiser also has some drawbacks. The sound is good, but some headphones in the same price range have better sound. You often have to compromise on battery life or ease of use. Furthermore, it is not very suitable for sports. You can also not fold it properly, so it takes up quite a bit of space in your bag.

This model from JBL scores well in the test and is a lot cheaper than the Best in the Test. A great option if you are not looking for the best of the best and would rather spend a little less money.
The sound of these headphones is not inferior to that of the Best in the Test. You will notice a bigger difference with the noise cancelling. It works well with the JBL, but cannot match that of the Sennheiser.
The battery life is good. You can use the headphones for about 38 hours on a full charge. This is an excellent performance, especially in combination with noise cancelling.
These headphones are comfortable for most people. Although this model is also not very suitable for sports. It doesn’t stay in place very well if you move around a lot. You can fold these headphones up small and therefore easy to take with you in your bag.
In this section we write weekly about household and technological appliances that have been tested by the Consumers’ Association. This is a collaboration between the independent editors of this site and the Consumers’ Association.
The Consumers’ Association tests thousands of products every year, together with qualified technicians in specialized laboratories in the Netherlands and abroad. The products that are tested are bought in the store, so that they are not pre-manipulated by manufacturers.
New models are tested as soon as possible after introduction. How fast that is varies per product. The Best in Test is the product with the best test rating. This can also be an older model, because a newer model is not always better. The Best Buy is the product with the best value for money.
The stated price of a product is the lowest retail price at the moment as far as known by the Consumers’ Association. But prices can vary from day to day. If no recent retail price is known, the target price is quoted.
