The district heart consists largely of the shopping center of Bargeres. There is vacancy on the east side. The main cause is the departure of the Op=Op store, which accounted for a considerable number of store meters.
The municipality of Emmen cannot indicate whether this is the intended location for the new building. “We are in discussion with the owner about the future options that fit into the total redevelopment,” said a spokesman. In terms of delivery, there is some clarity about this project: no later than 2030.
A spokesman for Domesta says that all plans are still at an early stage. A further explanation of the plans can therefore not be given yet, she said.
District chairman Jaap Bakker speaks of a positive development for the district. “The plans fit perfectly within the neighborhood vision that we have been working on with all residents for three years.”
According to Bakker, the plans mainly contribute to a more diverse housing supply in the district. The elderly and small households meet a need with these projects, he believes. “Bargeres is a spacious, but at the same time full district. Space for this type of development is scarce. So if schools leave or plots become vacant, that offers great opportunities for our district.”
