Nearly 11,000 walkers finish the Four Days of the Yser: just short of a record

Willy Defevere is participating in the Four Days of the Yser for the 48th time. “The first year I started in the army. Since I was a nurse, I had to take care of the feet and the blisters,” he says.

Different track

You would start to think that the Four Days Marches would get boring after so many participations, but nothing could be further from the truth, as it turns out. “It’s a different route every year. You can never say that you are taking a route that you have already seen.”

Yet it is not for everyone: “You have to train. I walk the Groene 62 myself, a fantastic course. Ideal for training near Ostend,” says hiker Gorik Sohier.
