NBA star and double MVP Nikola Jokic will lead the Serbian national team at the European Basketball Championship in September. This was announced by the national association on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old center of the Denver Nuggets, voted the most valuable player in the NBA in the past two seasons, is in the Serbs’ squad for the first time since the 2019 World Cup.
The reigning Vice European Champion and Olympic silver medalist from Rio 2016 will play the opening game of the European Championship on September 2nd in Prague against the Netherlands. Other group opponents of the co-favourites are the Czech Republic, Poland, Finland and Israel.
The preliminary round of the European Championship will take place in Prague, Milan, Tbilisi and Cologne, the final round with the final on September 18th in Berlin. In addition to Jokic, another superstar of the NBA is to appear in Luka Doncic. With European champion Slovenia, the exceptional player of the Dallas Mavericks is the group opponent of the German team in Cologne on September 6th.
