Nikola Jokic, who plays for the Denver Nuggets in the American Basketball League (NBA), and Damian Lillard, who plays for the Portland Trail Blazers, extended their contracts with their teams.
According to the statement made on the NBA’s website, Jokic, who was selected as the most valuable player (MVP) of the last 2 regular seasons and had the honor of playing in all-star games 4 times in his career, signed a contract that binds him to the Nuggets for 5 years starting from the 2023-24 season.
The US press shared that 27-year-old Jokic had $ 60 million in player options in the final year of his contract, and with a total value of $ 264 million, it was the most expensive deal in NBA history.
The Serbian center, who was selected 41st by the Nuggets in the 2014 NBA Draft, holds the title of the lowest ranked player to win the MVP award. Jokic has averaged 19.7 points, 10.4 rebounds and 6.2 assists in his 7-year NBA career.
LILLARD AT TRAIL BLAZERS UNTIL THE END OF SEASON 2026-27
Lillard, who was selected as an all-star 6 times in his career and is a member of the NBA 75th Anniversary Team, extended his contract for 2 years, which will expire at the end of the 2024-25 season. The 31-year-old point guard, who spent 10 years in the league with the Trail Blazers, produced 24.6 points, 6.6 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game.
