The crew of the Dutch naval vessel Zr.Ms. Groningen has intercepted two shipments of drugs in the Caribbean Sea near Curaçao. It concerns a load of cocaine and marijuana, in total almost 2000 kilos.
Twelve people from Venezuela were arrested in the actions last Friday and Saturday. To force them to stop, warning shots were first fired. When the suspects refused to surrender, shots were fired at the outboard motors, according to a spokeswoman for the Royal Netherlands Navy.
The drugs and the suspects were then handed over to the Curaçao police. “They will handle it further,” said the spokeswoman.
