The ventilation systems in the car park at Pieter Vreedeplein in Tilburg will be replaced before the end of this year. On Saturday, several people became sick when they were stuck in the garage for a long time. Although the ventilation was on, it could not prevent the exhaust fumes from lingering in the room.
Things went wrong last Saturday when traffic came to a standstill outside the parking garage. Normally, the municipality of Tilburg calls in traffic controllers to steer traffic in the right direction, but due to a misunderstanding that was not the case on Saturday afternoon.
With all its consequences. A long queue of cars could no longer leave the garage. The manager of the garage already announced on Saturday that several people left the parking garage with the elevator because they could no longer tolerate the smoke from exhaust fumes.
Nevertheless, the ventilation system was indeed on, says a spokesperson for the municipality. “At full speed. But because of the large number of vehicles that stopped with the engine running, the problems arose.”
She does add, however, that the ventilation system will not last long. “It needs to be replaced. Before the end of this year.”
