Natuurmonumenten will monitor more nature reserves. Especially in the evenings, boas (extraordinary investigative officers) go out to ensure that people comply with the rules.
Natuurmonumenten has received money from the province to conduct regular enforcement actions. This is in collaboration with Staatsbosbeheer, Sportvisserij Oost – Nederland, Sportvisserij Groningen Drenthe, Stichting het Drentse Landschap, the environmental police and therefore the province.
According to forest ranger Tineke Bouwmeester, the extra supervision is necessary. “You already notice it with parking around the Nije Hemelriek, there it is very annoying for the neighborhood that they can no longer pass. But it is even more annoying for the emergency services. They just have to be able to pass.”
In addition to parking, the boas will also be more strict when it comes to barbecuing in nature. “That’s what causes fires. That’s really not possible,” says Bouwmeester. The organizations are now working together because it is getting busier in nature because of the weather and the holidays. “We now have to emphasize strongly that there is supervision.”
In addition to barbecuing and parking, the boas will also monitor campfires, illegal fishing and noise pollution.
