There will be a lot of thunder tonight, at least that is the expectation. And that makes nature photographer Marcel van Engelen from Purmerend very happy. “Finally some nice thunderstorms that are expected,” Marcel told NH Radio.
“The big question is when will it erupt. At 4 p.m. or 6 p.m. The later, the better. When it’s dark, it’s easier to see.” It would be perfect for Marcel if the thunderstorms only start after 10 p.m.
The nature photographer has previously taken spectacular photos from his balcony in the Weidevenne district of Purmerend. “The speed of lightning, you know how much damage it can do. But if you look at the result in a photo later, it’s a beautiful natural phenomenon.”

How does it work?
Still, capturing the lightning bolt is tricky. “The camera always takes a picture of 2 seconds and places it on top of the previous one. A picture can consist of 1000 shots. With 1 picture as a result.”
Marcel is happy with the photo when several lightning bolts can be seen and the surroundings are also included. “Then you can see where the photo was taken.” Photography is a hobby for the Purmerender. Nnext nature photographer is Marcel also underwater photographer. He travels all over the world to shoot beautiful pictures. His underwater photography is here to see.
Whether the nature photographer succeeded in taking pictures tonight, you can see tomorrow on our site.
